
Lanvin
At the age of 16, in 1889, Jeanne Lanvin opened her first fashion studio at 16 rue Boissy d’Anglas in Paris. She marked her status as a designer 20 years later, in 1909, when she launched her first clothing line after joining the Syndicat de la Couture. The lanvin house success was very rapid, and it was mostly due to her designs that also included a children’s clothing line.Lanvin’s daughter, Marguerite Marie-Blanche, was a very big inspiration for her designs. It’s seen through her floral sundresses, in the studio’s emblem that was a daisy, “marguerite” in French, and in the illustrations for the brands Arpège fragrance; there is a mother and daughter drawn by Paul Iribe.
The brand made a remarkable progress in the 1920s, including the opening of over 7 stores around Europe with almost 1,200 employees. In 1923, Lanvin launched a sportswear, menswear, lingerie, and fur lines.
When it came to fragances, the first successful one was “My Sin “ in 1925, which was followed up by Arpège perfume in 1927.
After Jeanne Lanvin’s passing in 1946, her daughter Marguerite took over as head of the house. Soon after her death in 1958, several designers took turns in taking over the brand. From then up to 1964, Antionio Conovas de Castillo was the creative director. Then came Jean-Francois Crahay as the brand’s haute-couture designer until 1976.
In 1993, Lanvin decided to end its haute couture line and became ready-to-wear collections under the work of Dominique Morlotti.
In 1996, L’Oreal bought the brand and Ocimar Versolato was the one to design the women’s collections for the next couple of years until Chirstina Oriz took over.
In 2001, Alber Elbaz was nominated as creative designer of the brand, . Meanwhile, Lanvin was sold to a Chinese business woman,Shaw Lan Wang.. In 2012, the creative director celebrated a decade working at Lanvin by releasing a memoir.
In 2016 Alber Elbaz has been fired without notice and replaced by Bouchra Jarrar
