Cartier
Cartier was established in 1847 by Louis-Francois Cartier in Paris.. Louis François Cartier always had a fascination with timepieces and really understood the art behind them. He was able to get an elite clientele with important and royal families in Europe. He styled the best families with the most beautiful pieces; his reputation grew and was granted with the title of “Jeweler of King and the King of Jewelers” by the British royal family. Louis-François Cartier was a watch and clock maker, he was credited with bringing back the lost arts in horology. Most of their important pieces are “mystery” clocks, which include beautiful bases and designs. The “mystery” of it was that the clock hour and minute hands are invisible, making it appear as they are floating. Louis-François Cartier created many timepieces for their clients before making it available to the public market. His son, Louis Cartier, took over the company until almost halfway into the 20th century. Louis is known for making Cartier what it is today, by partnering up with high-end watchmakers to product to make product movements. One of the most known partnerships was with Edmond Jaeger- known today as watchmaker Jaeger-Lecoultre. The early Cartier watches were hand made in Paris, and two of their models became very popular. The brand is known to have created the first mainstream men’s watch with the Santos-Dumont, which went on sale in 1911. The legendary square watch was created for Alberto Santos-Dumont, a friend to Louis Cartier. The other iconic model was the tank one, it came out during WWI in 1917 and it was made to honor the Allied tanks from the war. Cartier is still based in Paris but it is part of the Richemont Group. It is among the top names in luxury goods globally. Not only does Cartier produce watches, but also accessories and fine jewelry. Cartier’s powerful name is credited to the charisma and leadership of its founder.
